Keeping Your Area Rugs From Curling
Wednesday, August 21, 2024
There is nothing more annoying than when your area rugs begin to curl. Especially when you have furniture over them. Here are some strategies and solutions to keep area rugs the way they are meant to be – flat on the ground and not curled up like a roll of tape.
1. Use Rug Grippers or Anti-Curling Strips
Apply rug grippers or anti-curling strips to the corners and edges of your rug. These products are specifically designed to keep rugs flat on the floor.
2. Rug Pads
Place a non-slip rug pad underneath your rug. This will provide additional grip and keep the rug from moving, which can cause curling over time.
3. Double-Sided Carpet Tape
Apply double-sided carpet tape along the edges of the rug. This will help secure the rug to the floor and prevent curling.
4. Steam and Weight Method
Use a steamer to gently heat the curled edges, then place heavy objects (like books or furniture) on the corners until they cool and flatten out.
5. Iron with a Damp Cloth
Place a damp cloth over the curled areas and gently iron on a low setting. The heat and moisture will help to relax the fibers and flatten the rug.
6. Reverse Rolling
Roll the rug in the opposite direction of the curl and leave it for a day or two. This can help counteract the curl and flatten the rug.
7. Regular Maintenance
Regularly vacuum and rotate your rug to prevent uneven wear, which can lead to curling.
By applying these methods, you can keep your area rugs flat and prevent them from curling at the edges and potentially causing someone to trip. For additional tips and information on area rugs, contact Jason’s Carpet and Tile at 954-231-4487.
