How do I find the right tile flooring?

Thursday, November 18, 2021 9:50 AM

So you’ve decided that you want tile flooring. Congratulations! There is nothing like a tile floor that beautifies a home. The question is, what kind of tile should you get? At Jason’s Carpet & Tile, we can help you with that question. Our tile store is the best at helping you get the right floor tile. There are a couple of factors that go into choosing the right tile. Let’s look at them.

Hardness

Using the Moh scale of mineral hardness, which measures scratch resistance, we can determine which tile class is suitable for your home. Class 2 is ideal for light foot traffic, whereas Class 5 is better for heavy foot traffic. The sweet spot is Classes 3 & 4; these are best for residential homes. Situational variables also apply. If you have a large or small family or the room you are flooring is heavily used, that determines what Class you need. Talk to our staff about details like this, so they can help you find the right tile for you.

Porosity

Porosity is the measure of density and absorption rates of tile. An impervious tile does not absorb any liquid and can be used indoors and outdoors. It is essentially waterproof, whether or not it is glazed. Typically, this is porcelain. Vitreous tile is water-resistant to a degree, but it will absorb water and crack in freezing conditions. Semi-vitreous and non-vitreous tiles can only be used indoors in dry places.

Jason’s Carpet & Tile is here to help you with your floor tile. We have a showroom in three locations: Amherst, Sandusky, and Elyria, OH. We serve Vermilion, Oberlin, and Wellington. We know how difficult it can be to choose the right tile flooring. That’s why we have qualified and experienced staff to help you with every step of your floor buying and installation. We listen to your needs and requirements and tailor a specific plan to get you what you are looking for. Our tile shop can help you with all your tile flooring needs.
